Description
The Hoochie Coochie man, Muddy Waters, was a legendary Blues guitarist whose music strongly influenced the British Pop group, The Rolling Stones who named their band after one of Muddy Waters' songs. Here the effect of perspective in creating the illustionary alternative reality is in full use. Because of perspective, I am able to diminish the chair that creates the crown of the head in order to fit the proportions of the jugs that make up the cheeks and and eyes. There is a piece of orange that serves as the lips and all of these are placed on a table mat which one sees as his lower jaw. In the forground, perspective allows me to widen the table and place a vase with its bird-of-paradise flower as the hand that holds the handle of the guitar. When I place the guitar on the table the two dimensional nature of the canvas permits the viewer to see the image in its dual form; as a guitar on a table and as a guitarist holding his guitar. The same characteristic of two dimensionality of the canvas and the three dimensionality of the illusion of reatistic painting combine to create an alternative reality to the actual image that I painted. If this arrangement were to be recreated in real life, the image of the guitarist that one sees in this picture would not be visible except from the singular vantage point that I have presented.
