Title
Amazing DISgrace of John Newton
Artist
David G Wilson
Medium
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Description
John Newton was the lyricist who wrote the words of the famous hymn, "Amazing Grace", which has become an anthem for the descendants of slaves. However, it is important to know the other details of his life. He had spent most of his life as a slave ship captain transporting captured Africans into slavery in the Americas.
Towards the end of his life, after amassing a fortune through his disgraceful pursuit, an investment from which he did not divest, he surveyed his life and saw the malevolence of his activity. He became an abolitionist and strove to outlaw the damnable practice. I am curious to know whether he ever forwent the fortune that he amassed in pursuit of this DISGRACEFUL career.
