Artist's Description
Black Liberty (Freedom) is being chased by a slave in hot pursuit. They are both holding the flag while the Union of the two (Lincoln) observes the chase and realizes that if they are not reconciled, the Union (Lincoln s image) would disintegrate because of this Civil War. It is within this pictorial space that the struggle takes place. The divine (moon) and man-made (lamppost) enlightenment of democracy which is the American ideal of freedom and equality for all, has been suppressed into the background, but its sanctity and brilliance is the light of the land and therefore cannot be perpetually suppressed and so it forces him to confront the paradox of slavery in a land that professes to be Free and Home of the Brave. So, for the sake of the Union, Lincoln chooses self-preservation and the perpetuation of the Union, his image, by reconciling Black Freedom and the pursuing Slave.

About David G Wilson
I am exhausting tremendous efforts in trying to depict a spacial dimension that is inclusive of the third and supported by a two dimensional surface. It is a dimension that exists somewhere within our three dimensional terrestrial space, congruent and mutually inclusive of empirical realities. Its existence is contingent on the shifting retinal impressions of the viewer's perceptions. I call it: "Alternative Reality. Love this image, your work fools the eye, your work reminds me of Salvador Dali. Like you, he would trick the eye, and the mind. You have so many great works, I'm having a hard time picking one favorite.
David G Wilson replied:
My collection spans 41 years and 33 with this style. Indeed, my work was influenced by Salvador Dali's double imagery. However, in my research I have discovered numerous precursors of Dali, including Leonard da Vinci whose clever illusions in most of his paintings, especially the Mona Lisa, are yet to be discovered by those who document art history.
