I would not be so presumptuous as to say that I have found the hidden images that Leonardo wove into his paintings and that in 500 years, no one had been able to recognize Leonardo's slight of hand, because I do not believe that this is the case. What I reveal in those paintings are more closely related to my own idiosyncracies than to anything that Leonardo may or may not have incorporated into his art. However, I still believe that if he suggested the technique, he may have practiced it at some point in his artistic career. When I look at many of Leonardo's works, I find a plethora of suggestive images hidden within plain sight that it shocks me that few, if any, have ever looked for these possibilities. We know that Leonardo was wont to paint using a hazy smokey technique called "sfumato" .This could make it possible to conceal images within images. We know from his style of mirror script which was not decipherable for centuries hence, that he was a secretive personality. Whether he did this for his own security, concealing his ideas from the Inquisition, yet documenting them for posterity and hoping that men would decipher them in the future, is purely an exercise in speculation. My objective, therefore, is to recreate Leonardo's image by searching and finding plausibly juxposed 'mnemonic images' that relate to my own background and also to the target image. I want to create an image that exists within a parallel universe with the subject image. In the resulting image, I aspire to reveals a dimension beyond the traditional three dimensional terrestrial visual experience that we are optically trained to perceive.
