Description
This is my homage to the Mighty Sparrow, one of my greatest literary heroes, whose double entendre lyrics have delighted me since 1958 when I was a little boy in short pants. Sparrow's double entendre has been an inspiration and has influenced my style of painting since 1980.
In this painting, one may see Sparrow's "Jakabats and Wabins" in double imagery,
"Jean and Dinah, Rosita and Clementina in my studio posing,
Bet your life it's something they're selling."
Somewhere in this painting Sparrow's effigy is hiding and I challenge my viewers to find his devilish image. The old devil is hiding in the most obvious place that one would find him in a room full of his "Jakabats." There are several references to Sparrow's calypsoes which you should search for. (lol)
Can you find Sparrow and his hilarious calypsoes? 'Saltfish' and 'Willy Dead' and "Drunk and Disorderly" are three of the gems. There are also two incarnations of Sparrow, as a bird and as the devil. They are hidden in the most obvious locations.
