Description
This painting is based on a story that Andrew Young told about the night before Dr. King died. He recounted that the chef at the motel had prepared fried catfish for Dr. King and his disciples complained that they were not offered fried fish. So, Dr. King placed the plate of fish on the bed at the Lorraine Motel and said, "Come let's share it". It is significant to note that the fish, "Ichthus" is the symbol of Christ. So, as they partook of that fish, they were really celebrating Dr. King's last Supper and communion. In the window above Dr King's head, one may see the cross with the image of Christ, crucified in the chains. The setting sun indicates supper time while Christ makes an appearance among and within them. On the right of Dr. King is Andrew Young and on his left is Ralph Abernathy, holding the book that he wrote revealing the secrets of Dr. King's last evening, a revelation that angered me.
