Description
F E D U P is an acronym which means 'When "Freedom, Equality and Dignity are Undermined Profoundly," the indignant seeks redress "By Any Means Necessary." ' Growing up in the Caribbean, we were told that Malcolm was the violent one while Dr. King was the peaceful one. But few understood the message that Malcolm was sending. He was simply stating that one should not allow anyone to abuse him. It is evident in the representation of his glasses. The sickle and the scimeter - his foresight. The sickle represents his vision for black people to help themselves and be self-sufficient and the scimeter represents his believe in self-defense; not turning the other cheek. Here he appears in front of a mosque and the decoration of the door serves as his halo. The two belligerant looking arabs represent the false belief that Malcolm was a violent man. His initials M X are etched between the floor tiles. David G. Wilson
